The study originally assumed that only when one is bilingual or trilingual that the areas mentioned above are enhanced, but analysis showed that even at the beginnings of learning a new language, those six areas are increased. So my question to you is: how big of a difference do you think it makes to be multilingual or to know only small parts of a language when dealing with how greatly those six areas are affected? In addition, in class we discussed that it is not possible for people to be monolingual, as each language is influenced by other ones. So how does this study affect students who claim to only know one language?
